So, it's been awhile since I've posted.  I've just been lazy.  I'm going a bit out of order and writing about our most recent trip (hopefully the missing trips will have posts shortly).  On to our latest trip. This past Canada Day week we decided to take a trip out to Montreal, Quebec City and the Parc National de la Gaspesie.  We spent a day in Montreal and a day in Quebec City to enjoy the poutine and smoked meat and do a little shopping and site seeing, but the main purpose of our trip was to visit the Parc National de la Gaspesie.  We were hiking a part of the International Appalachian Trail, that would take us up and over Mont Jacques Cartier.  The hike was a typical 3 day and 2 night trip, but instead of camping, we would be staying in huts located along the trail. Before getting too far, I have to say that the park system in Quebec (www.sepaq.com) is much better and much better equipped than our parks in Ontario. There are so many more options that are available to you when want to visit, it makes trying to plan a visit so much easier. For us, it meant that we didn't even need to bring a tent even though we stay in the park before and after our hike. We left Quebec City around lunch time and drove along the southern coast of the St. Lawrence River into the park. It is a really nice drive along the coast. There are all sorts of little towns all the way along and we saw all kinds of kittle houses all along the coast. The drive took a lot longer than we expected, but we managed to get to the park by about 6. Our first night we stayed in something called "Huttopia." It is basically a giant tent set up with beds, a fridge and kitchen area as well as an outdoor stove. It was great for us because we didn't have to worry about setting up camp for the night. We were able to get in, cook, clean and pack for the next day.  It also allowed us to get out quick the next morning.  We actually overslept and had to rush out the next morning. After dropping our car off at the visitor's centre, we caught the morning shuttle to the trail head.

Once dropped off our hike began.  The first part of the hike is actually a day trail up to the top of Mount Jacques Cartier.  It is about a 4km hike to the top of the mountain.  It started out as any other hike, but we quickly started to climb. Unlike in New Zealand (post to come), where the climb up the mountain was mainly a switchback trail which made the climb slightly less strenuous, the hike up to Mount Jacques Cartier was a straight, pretty steep climb.  What made it slightly even more strenuous was that the trail was very rocky, so we had to watch our steps very carefully.

After about 2.5 hours of steady climbing we finally made it to the summit.  It's quite the view from there.  We stopped here for a while, taking in the view, getting a rest and getting some food.  The rest of the trek would be generally downhill, so we figured the rest of the trip would be fairly easy. We were very wrong.  Once we had finished enjoying the summit we began the descent down to cabin where we were staying for the night.  At this point we had hiked about 4km (half the distance to our cabin).  As expected, it was downhill, but it wasn't the type of downhill that would allow us to hike fast.  The "trail" was rocks, large, small, medium and we had to scramble down them, from one rock to the next.  Trekking poles were a must on this part of the trek, and I don't know how others had done it without and with a giant backpack on their backs. Needless to say our trek down the mountain took a lot longer than we expected.  Another surprise was that a portion of the hike took us over some snow covered areas.  We were definitely not expecting this.  We had seen the snow from the summit, but neither of us ever thought we'd be hiking across it.

Hiking on the Snow in July
It started out pretty cool, we were hiking across snow in the middle of July.  But, as we got on the snow, we realized, it wasn't as cool as it seemed.  For one, it was pretty soft, and it was pretty difficult going, our boots kept slipping and sinking.  We actually both fell into the snow as we walked close to some of the rocks.  Luckily, neither of us was hurt. viagra no prescription pharma-bi.com The Kamagra brand on the other hand has a range of medication to improve one's sexual health as well as relationship. tadalafil canada mastercard If you have ever faced any sort of sexual complications. After a bit more hiking down the mountain we made it to the cabin where we would be spending our first night.  One of the really nice things about having cabins on the trails is that there's no need to set up camp or worry about all of the other camp chores that would normally need to be done.  Instead, all we had to do, was walk in, pick our bunks drop our bags and relax.

While we were pumping water and preparing for dinner, we got our final surprise of the day.  A woodland caribou wandered up right next to the cabin, drinking from the nearby stream.  You can see what he thinks of us. After that, it was dinner, then bedtime, getting ready for the next days hike (post to follow shortly, hopefully).
